Self-Image

As I am wanting to take a more personal turn in my Fmp film. I wanted to see how other artist have represented them self's in there own work and how they constructs there own self image.. Doing this has helped me to see how I want to show my self of to people and how I want my film and myself to be remembered in my film.

Andy Warhol – Self Portrait, 1964
In Warhol’s work it has been said there are implication that life is just wallpaper. At first I did not know what this meant. I think it means that Life and Art is just meaningless and not needed. Here for the pure propose to look pretty.

Vincent Van Gogh – Self Portrait, 1887
One of the interesting things I have found out about Van Gogh is that he used to paint some of his self-portraits over other works. He also used himself out of necessity as others would not pose.  “If I manage to paint the colours of my own face - something which is not without its problems – I can then paint the faces of others.” The mark making is based on pointillist theories and the suit he wears immortalizes him as a presentable and respectable man. Having this in mind it made me think, how would I like myself to be remembered. This will be on my mind while filming.

Edvard Munch – Auto Portrait, 1895

when I first saw Munch's paints of him self I though he looked like he was dazed or even on drugs. He has a very layed back feel to his work. If I was to guess about the type of person he was from his work I would say that he was honest, out shy or trying to hide anything

Leon Kossoff – Self Portrait, 1967
The portraits of Kossoff really stood out for me. As I have always be interesting in how we age and I see that in his self portrait. When wait he paints seems more important then the way the portrait looks. This is also true with my own work but with the way I film instead. It almost feels like the painting is of a ghost.
