Directed by Stanley Kubrick

Novel by Stephen King

Cinematography: John Alcott

Starring: Jack Nicholson, Danny Lloyd

The Shining is about a wicked and spiritual occurrence which influences the dad into violent behaviour, while his psychic son, Danny sees terrible sinister things from the past and things to come, at a remote hotel where they are staying for the winter.

The sequence I enjoyed watching the most was when Danny was riding around on his tricycle around the hotel on the blood spattered carpet, turning corners (filmed with a stedicam) until he ends up at room 237 and has visions of two murdered girls,

The Shining does not have much todo with my FMP but I wanted to include it as watching any film still gives me insight and a lot of expermental film do have a horror aspects to them i feel. So why not talk about an iconic horror movie moments like Danny riding around the hotel. Also as a strong horror lover myself The Shining is one of my all time favourite films and I would say the best in its class, mainly because it was based on the book by Stephen King, who is a world class horror writer that i adore.

I would say The Shining is the best modern thriller to date as every last detail has been carefully done, from a strip of wallpaper to the sound of a wheel going around enhancing the feeling we feel inside when watching the film. It is detailes like this that most modern horror films/ slasher films seem to neglect, as they are just interested in how much blood they can fit in. That’s why The Shining, compared to all the other thrillers/horror films out there, is my all-time favourite.
