What does video and art do?

I got asked today what I wanted my film to do to and for the audience. I has a short answers but It made me think, Why do I watch films? What do they do for me? What do they do to me?

It reports
It documents
It flatters
It reveals
It amuses
It provokes
It undermines

It informs
It persuades
It represents
It shocks
It copies
It offends
It motivates
It reinforces

It inspires

It dictates

It intimidates
It confuses

It lies

It analyses

By making this list I think If someone was to ask me that question again I would be able to answer it in detail. I don't think all these points are relevant to my FMP video but a lot of them are and I know the rest will leave me thinking about why I want this and like this when watching a film.
