I have been filming today at Eastleigh and while I was doing my time-lapse I was playing the Sex Pistols. I knew Jamie Reid had designed the covers for the albums but did not no much else so while I was waiting for my 1 hour time-lapse to do its thing I did some research on Reid on my phone.
I found out that he was born 1947 and is a British graphic designer. He is particularly famous for his work, in the style of a ransom note which contains letters cut from newspaper headlines. Jamie Reid is one of the essential people that defined punk rock in the UK and the rest of the world. He is best known for his work with the Sex Pistols in the 1970’s.
His specific design skills were employed in making controversial imagery. He made things that he knew would shock people, like defacing the Queen and using words like f**k. He also used imagery of women in sexual positions, which caused outrage at the time. Everything about his style is punk.
I found it really interesting to find out more about one of my loved bands by researching there graphic designer. As well as learning about Reid today I had a good day and am pleased with my footage that I took.
